The Local Police want to communicate with citizens in Trieste, showing their will to promote the values of openness, transparency, and respect.
The main goal for the police is to provide security, however to make sure the mission is completed they are trying to implement a “Community Police”, which means being close to the people to understand their needs.
The municipal councilor for the City Security Policies, Caterina de Gavardo, talked about this commitment and the available tools that are being used to approach the people of Trieste. “Communication takes place in a bilateral way: the Local Police communicate with citizens, but citizens can also communicate with the Local Police ”, said the councilor.
The presence of the patrols in the streets are part of the contact with citizens and the possibility of reaching a police officer when they have a request, but the possibilities go beyond it. “The citizen can reach the Local Police, also by contacting the districts and the Caserna S. Sebastiano di Via Revoltella”. For immediate interventions needed there is an operating room to call”, continued Caterina de Gavardo.
Today, the communication methods have been modernized, thanks to new technology and the increase of social media interaction over the years. Anyone who wants to contact the police can send an email, as well as a certified email. On the other hand, the most active and popular tool is the interactive “Agente Gianna” on Facebook.
To ask for information is enough to have a device available and send a message. The Local Police has had this social method since 2016, with a significant increase of followers during the Covid period. The objective with Agent Gianna is to build a friendly version of Police on the social media channels. She offers a guaranteed answer in a short time. Also, the Facebook page is being used to publish useful communications.
During the Barcolana the Local Police will be open to be contacted by anyone, open to each warning, question, or request. The Commander of the Local Police, Walter Milocchi, reminds the population about the phone calls contact method.
Commander Paolo Jerman, added that the Civil Protection uses the hashtag #allertameteoFVG to coordinate instructions in case of atmospheric events and extraordinary situations that could affect the city order. Proof of the importance of community communications when it comes to safety, on Tuesday many Trieste inhabitants received a test message from the Italian public alert system, which could be also used in major emergencies.
