It has never been easier: say goodbye to the headache of searching for a ticket machine around the city to buy that bus ticket.
All buses in Trieste will have a new device that allows passengers to get their tickets onboard. You can use your credit card or debit card to purchase the ticket, which is then validated through the QRcode.
How does it work?
The bus inspector will usually make their way through the bus at some point during the journey to check for validated tickets. If you purchased a paperless ticket, the conductor will scan the QR code from your smartphone.
It’s important to make sure your payment method is going to work when purchasing a ticket onboard. If you have EuroPay, Mastercard, Visa, or “bancomat,” you can benefit from this new method. All you have to do is bring your card near the machine and wait for the green light which will signify you’ve purchased a ticket.
Once the bus transportation officer asks for your ticket, you will need to show them the device (such as a smartphone) or card you used for the purchase. In the case of more than one trip per day, you will need to repurchase the ticket every time you get on the bus. At the end of the day you will be charged for all trips made.
A bus transport officer can board the bus at any time and request to see validated tickets – the first thing you should do before getting on the bus (or once on the bus) is buy your ticket.
