At 8.00 pm on Friday Barcolana reached 1,719 people registered for the regatta and the great Trieste party has officially begun.

“We have already exceeded the number of participants from the last edition – declared Mitja Gialuz – and it is a great success: the shared crew of Barcolana has responded to our call, hundreds of boats are sailing up the Adriatic to reach us and create the largest crew of the world. We will all have the opportunity to say goodbye tomorrow and Sunday along the docks, tell each other about a year of exploits, share regattas and the moments spent at sea. Trieste is the home of popular sailing, the Barcolana is the guardian of the nautical tradition, the bastion of sailing for all, to be protected, valorised and handed down”.

From the “Women in Sailing” project to Parasailing, the most inclusive Barcolana ever welcomed the sailors who arrived with the Go To Barcolana from Ravenna Hera Group Trophy – a regatta won by the beautiful Irina of Maurizio Guglielmo who crossed the finish line at 11.46 this morning – just as the new e-sailing world champion celebrated, after a series of 11 regattas held in the digital version of the Gulf of Trieste: he is the Frenchman Tristan Péron, who preceded the Englishman Arthur Farley and the Frenchman Tim Carpentier. A large organization, coordinated by World Sailing, was necessary to stream, with views all over the world, the e-sailing world championship assigned by the International Sailing Federation to the Trieste virtual regatta field and the Barcolana, which however did not it brought luck to the only Italian participant, Lorenzo Sorrenti, third before the last decisive regatta, the medal race, who was embroiled in a duel with the Japanese athlete.

Eleven players, eleven regattas plus the meda race: the tests began in the afternoon at 3pm and ended around 6pm in a crescendo of views and difficulty: in each test a boat of a different class was used, starting from the dinghy ( ILCA), then J70 up to skiff and foil boats, such as the Nacra. The last race, the twelfth, excluded the eleventh and was held as a medal race with double points.

WOMEN IN SAILING – Friday at Barcolana was above all the day of “Women in Sailing” at sea: for the first time this year, the project promoted by Generali for Barcolana not only represents an opportunity for awareness and reflection “on land ”, but it becomes a real regatta between competitors of the XIII FIV Zone on board 28-foot monotypes.

Contested this morning with Bora gusts of up to 15 knots, the regatta saw two races and the presence at sea and at the helm of one of the monotypes also of the Testimonial of “Women in Sailing” by Generali, Francesca Clapcich, who finished second.

The victory, with two first places, went to the team composed of Carolina Albano, Maria Vittoria Marchesini, Anna Pagnini and Andrea Parmegiani.
