Skiing in Friuli Venezia Giulia is not only beautiful but also cost-effective and according to Governor Massimiliano Fedriga, the region’s snow hubs have become increasingly attractive, offering quality services at prices more favorable to tourists than other Alpine destinations.

Speaking at the press conference on Thursday in Trieste alongside Tourism Minister Sergio Emidio Bini, Governor Fedriga highlighted the innovations for the 2023-2024 winter ski season. Vice President of the Regional Council Stefano Mazzolini was also present.

The regional leader, expressing gratitude to PromoturismoFVG and Minister Bini for the positive results in the last season, explained, “In addition to improving services and facilities, the region has embarked on an aggressive pricing campaign at a time when families are grappling with rising inflation.”

“The ski resorts in Friuli Venezia Giulia,” Fedriga added, “offer a broad range of advantages and discounts for both residents and tourists from outside the region. Furthermore, with the technological innovation of online ticket purchases through automatic machines at Piancavallo, Tarvisio, Ravascletto/Zoncolan, and Sella Nevea, we aim to drastically reduce waiting times, allowing guests more time on the slopes.”

Minister Bini, after presenting the data for 2022-2023, which saw 833,000 first entries and a 15% increase in attendance compared to the pre-pandemic period, outlined the schedule for the new season. The ski season will open on December 8 (closing on April 1, 2024) for all FVG resorts, except for the upper part of the Sella Nevea facility, which will open early on December 2.

Regarding prices, emphasizing that the daily ski pass is the most affordable in the entire Alpine region (44 euros per day compared to 62 euros in the nearest Alpine region), Bini pointed out special discounts for those under 20 (10 euros per day) and families, with free passes for those born between 2017 and 2021. Additionally, the first pre-sale data for FISI and ski instructors (public sales starting on November 22) recorded a record sale of 903 subscriptions, generating 175,000 euros.

“We have chosen,” explained Minister Bini, “to strongly focus on discounts for the younger generation, to facilitate families and encourage sports involvement. Furthermore, we guarantee year-round mountain growth with a forward-looking investment plan, which over the last five years has seen an investment of 23.8 million for the expansion of skiable areas, more services, and improvements to facilities. A virtuous path that will continue in this legislature.”

Regarding promotion, Fedriga and Bini agreed on the effectiveness of the new and coordinated image of the regional ski hubs under the reference brand ‘Io sono Friuli Venezia Giulia’ (I am Friuli Venezia Giulia).

Among the other innovations presented were the opening of two red slopes at Sella Nevea, the introduction of new-generation snow generators in line with sustainability principles, and informative panels with weather reports.

PromoturismoFVG manages six ski resorts on behalf of the region: Forni di Sopra/Sauris, Piancavallo, Ravascletto/Zoncolan, Sappada/Forni Avoltri, Sella Nevea, and Tarvisio.
