A ten-minute reduction in the train journey from Trieste to Venice is in the works, particularly between Ronchi dei Legionari Sud and Mestre. Italian Rail Network experts confirmed this time cut, made possible by existing resources totaling 278 million, with a significant focus on technological enhancements.
This acceleration plan emerged as an alternative after the 2017 halt on the Trieste-Venice High-Speed Rail. The decision shifted towards enhancing and speeding up the existing line at a much lower cost of 1.8 billion.
Costs remain stable despite a material cost surge. The ongoing projects cover priority works and designs, totaling 1.8 billion, with 278 million currently available.
RFI is currently implementing technological enhancements on priority sections, including infrastructure works to support trains with the maximum axle weight. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to eliminate level crossings, and the maximum speed is set to increase from 150 to 200 kilometers per hour.
The complete implementation of these interventions aims to reduce the connection time between Trieste Centrale and Venice Mestre to under one hour for high-speed trains, minimizing intermediate stops.
