The conference “Dialogues on Femininity: Violence on Women’s Bodies – A Matter between Public and Private” took place on Tuesday, November 28 at the Revoltella Museum’s Auditorium. The event was organized by the Unique Guarantee Committee (CUG) of the Municipality of Trieste and moderated by President Ornella Luis. It was attended by Manuela Sartore, the Head of Human Resources of the Municipality of Trieste, who conveyed the institutional greetings of the organization.
In commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the CUG of the Municipality of Trieste aimed to present an awareness initiative for all employees of the organization.
Historically, women’s bodies have always been seen as a “conquered territory,” something to possess and display as a demonstration of power. The current grim statistic of “one every three days,” the macabre slogan that brings us back to the issue of femicides in Italy, fits well into this tradition and the mindset that supports it. For this reason, there is a continuous effort to weave words to cover the sense of emptiness generated by such violence.
The first part of the conference on “The Private Dimension of Violence” featured presentations by Lawyer Angela Filippi from the Trieste Bar, Chief Inspector Federica Marassi, head of the Contrast Violence, Stalking, and Abuse Unit of the Local Police, Operator Laura Cogoy from GOAP, and Dr. Gabriella Taddeo from Vita Activa Nuova.
The second part, titled “The Public Dimension of Violence,” saw contributions from journalist Fabiana Martini of Article21, journalist and Director of the Open Government Institutional Information Service of the Municipality of Trieste, Vittorio Sgueglia della Marra, Architect and Urban Planner Alice Poli of Kallipolis, and Local Police Officer Alessandro Bucer.
“Our Municipality, which is the home for all citizens – underline the Councilor for Education and Family and Equal Opportunities, Maurizio De Blasio, and the Councilor for Human Resources, Stefano Avian – in the face of this tragedy that particularly affects the younger segments of the population, feels compelled to bear witness to the values of tolerance, respect, and the building of healthy relationships that form the basis of our civic sense and social ties.”
