The centennial edition of the San Nicolò Fair was officially opened Friday morning with the cutting of the tricolor ribbon at Largo Don Bonifacio. The opening ceremony saw the presence of Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, Vice Mayor, and Economic Policies Assessor Serena Tonel, along with San Nicolò himself, who distributed sweets.

Organized and curated by the Municipality of Trieste, the event, celebrating its first hundred years, will continue as usual until Friday, December 8, in the traditional area of Viale XX Settembre.

Mayor Dipiazza remarked, “This Fair has been etched in my childhood memories as a distinctive trait of Trieste even then. Later, as mayor, I had the pride and honor of improving many aspects of the area where the event takes place. On the centenary, I am delighted to wish the entire city a Happy San Nicolò and joyful festivities.”

Vice Mayor and Assessor Tonel stated, “The San Nicolò Fair, which is dear to all of us, is an important moment for the entire city from an emotional, economic, and social perspective.” Tonel then described the collateral initiatives of the Fair, expressing gratitude to municipal offices, local businesses, and everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

Centennial Celebrations:

To mark the centenary, the Municipality will display a banner on the Town Hall, install totems at key points in the city, and distribute gadgets (coasters, bags, bookmarks) in public establishments in the area affected by the fair and its surroundings.

The Municipality, through the Economic Activities Service, Civici Musei di Storia ed Arte Phototeca, Communication Service, and Information Services, will also set up two photographic exhibitions dedicated to the history of the Fair. The first will be in the foyer of Teatro Rossetti (already open to theatergoers until December 10, 30 minutes before showtime). The second will be in the helical area of the Mercato Coperto (open from December 6 to January 7, free entry, from 8 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Saturday and 8 am to 2 pm on Monday, with the inauguration ceremony on December 6 at 11:30 am).

These exhibitions were curated using negatives from Foto Omnia by Ugo Borsatti, Adriano de Rota, Alfonso Mottola, and the Giornalfoto photographic agency, preserved in the Civici Musei di Storia ed Arte Phototeca.
