In anticipation of a series of five installations set to grace the historic Miramare Park, a multilingual tactile panel was inaugurated on Friday, December 1, within the confines of the Serre Nuove/MiraLAB, courtesy of technical sponsorship from the Lions Club Trieste Alto Adriatico.
This initiative is aligned with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed on December 3, an event endorsed by the Ministry of Culture, underscoring its commitment to dismantling physical, cognitive, sensory, and cultural barriers in cultural spaces.
The Miramare Park project, spearheaded by the inaugural tactile panel sponsored by the Lions Club Trieste Alto Adriatico, aims to ignite public discourse on the universal right to culture. It aspires to contribute to the eradication of all forms of discrimination and exclusion through consistent and tangible actions, aligning with the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, with a specific focus on the quality of education and inequality reduction.
The presentation will witness the presence of Miramare Director Andreina Contessa, leadership from the Lions Club Trieste Alto Adriatico, representatives from institutions, and key figures from Prossimi S.r.l. and UICI Trieste.
The tactile panel ensures complete accessibility, featuring titles, uppercase texts, and, of course, Braille inscriptions, all raised and sized appropriately for the visually impaired audience. This audience can touch and appreciate the silhouette of some of the trees in the park juxtaposed with the human figure. The project has received validation from the Trieste section of UICI.
An additional four multilingual tactile panels will soon be positioned in the park, supplementing the new signage system. They will be placed at the entrance of the area, in the castle square, and in the parterre zone.
