Opicina’s Enchanting Christmas: Lights, Choirs, and Community Spirit

In a festive event titled “Christmas with Us 2023,” the Christmas tree donated by the Municipality of Trieste was lit in Piazzale Monte Re in Opicina. The ceremony, attended by Vice Mayor and Municipal Assessor for Economic Policies Serena Tonel, featured performances by the MOPZ Male Choir and the Silver Choir of Villa Carsia. The event was graced by the presence of local authorities, including the President Nives Cossutta and Mayor of Monrupino Tanja Kosmina.

The Vice Mayor, Serena Tonel, expressed her joy at being part of the ceremony, emphasizing the strong sense of community in Opicina. She thanked the local consortium, the municipal district, and the various participants for fostering such a vibrant community spirit.

The Mayor of Monrupino, Tanja Kosmina, also expressed gratitude and praised the collaboration between Opicina and Monrupino. She commended the choir and the community initiatives, highlighting the positive relationship between the two municipalities.

President Nives Cossutta, representing the II Circoscrizione Altipiano Est, echoed the sentiments of unity and community spirit. She emphasized the importance of coming together during the holiday season and expressed hope for a positive new year.

Following the lighting ceremony, the Vice Mayor inaugurated a nativity scene crafted by “Nonna Bruna” in Via di Prosecco, with contributions from the community. Serena Tonel thanked “Nonna Bruna” for her dedication to creating a beautiful and historical nativity scene that symbolizes Opicina’s cohesion.

Santa Claus, portrayed by Omar Marucelli, later visited the F.lli Fonda Savio Recreation Center, bringing gifts to the children who decorated the Christmas tree. The Christmas festivities in Opicina will continue until January 14, 2024, with various events, including Sunday openings of shops, multiple nativity scenes, Christmas markets, and entertainment for children.

Other upcoming activities include Santa Claus’s carriage ride on December 21 and the inauguration of a second nativity scene in Villa Carsia on December 12. Additionally, the program features guided tours to historical sites and cultural events.

Opicina’s Christmas celebration, organized by the Consortium Centro in Via – Insieme a Opicina – Skupaj na Opčinah, is a collaborative effort with the Municipality of Trieste, the II Circoscrizione Altipiano Est, and contributions from local businesses and associations.
