Italy lights up the world’s largest Christmas tree on the slopes of Monte Ingino, above the medieval town of Gubbio in the Umbria region.

Gubbio illuminates its magical Christmas tree with more than 700 lights in an annual lighting ceremony dating back to 1981.

The lighting-up ceremony will be streamed by TrgMedia today from 6 pm and can also be followed live via the Facebook page Albero di Natale più Grande del Mondo.

Topped with a giant star, the tree measures 750m in height. There are 8.5 km worth of wires powering the lights of the huge tree display which entered the Guinness Book of Records in 1991.
