In a press conference held this morning at the Municipal Palace, Caterina de Gavardo, the City Commissioner for Public Safety, unveiled the latest informational info-graphic outlining Trieste’s snow plan. The event, attended by Vice Commander Paolo Jerman of the Local Police and Christian Tosolin, the Social Media Manager for the City of Trieste, aimed to foster continuous communication between local law enforcement and the citizens, establishing a two-way information flow.

Commissioner Caterina de Gavardo highlighted the collaborative efforts of various city services, both internal (Department of Education, Territory, and Social Media Team) and external (AcegasApsAmga, EDRfvg, FVG Strade, Strade Anas, Trieste Trasporti, Global Service, Edison Facility Solutions Spa, and Siram Spa), in executing Trieste’s snow plan. She emphasized that the plan is updated annually, involving a comprehensive network of services.

“The objective of this press conference is to inform citizens about best practices during snow and ice conditions. With the support of the Institutional Information and Open Government Service, we’ve created an infographic to be disseminated through all official channels of the City of Trieste, providing essential information to the public in the event of snowfall,” Commissioner Caterina de Gavardo explained.

Vice Commander Paolo Jerman emphasized that the advice provided to the public depends on the severity of the emergency. Institutional actors, refined over the years, are also engaged in preventive operations such as salting roads and sidewalks around schools.

“I advise everyone to have some salt on hand and, in the face of high criticality, to use their vehicles only if strictly necessary and equipped with chains or snow tires. It’s crucial for the public to understand that the snow plan prioritizes interventions based on specific routes,” concluded Paolo Jerman.

Christian Tosolin, the Social Media Manager of the City of Trieste, clarified that in case of snow, the City will consistently communicate the emergency status on its social channels, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Telegram. The City’s Facebook and X pages are accessible to all without the need for a personal profile, and citizens can use Facebook and Telegram to report issues without overwhelming the Emergency Operations Center hotline.

“To reduce inconveniences and prevent accidents, citizen collaboration is indispensable. In the true spirit of community, active participation from residents is essential for effectively managing snow and/or ice situations,” Tosolin added.

Emergency contact numbers were provided for citizens’ reference:

  • Emergency Hotline (24/7): 112
  • Local Police (24/7 Operations Center): 040366111
  • AcegasApsAmga (trash bins/sewers): 800.955.988 8800

The City encouraged residents to stay informed through the dedicated hashtag: #AllertameteoFVG
