In a grand municipal hall ceremony, the 2024-2026 budget was unveiled by Finance Commissioner Everest Bertoli and Public Works Commissioner Elisa Lodi at the Trieste City Hall. The presentation, attended by majority council leaders, showcased the administration’s commitment to timely financial planning and development.

Bertoli expressed gratitude to colleagues and majority leaders for approving the budget by December 31, despite opposition. He highlighted the importance of having the budget finalized by year-end to provide immediate support to the community, ensuring services, supporting the local economy, and aiding families facing financial challenges.

Elisa Lodi emphasized the ambitious projects underway in Trieste, funded by tangible resources from PNRR and PINQuA. Notable initiatives include public works in Porto Vecchio/Porto Vivo, the Museum of the Sea’s redevelopment, and the Trieste-PortoVecchio-Carso metropolitan cable car. Urban regeneration projects in various districts are also on the agenda.

The municipal administration allocates 16 million euros for the urban regeneration of San Giovanni through the PINQuA project, focusing on Ater housing refurbishment, association houses, an urban garden, and recreational areas with sports facilities. Another 5 million euros are designated for the regeneration of Servola.

Schools are a priority, with significant investments in safety measures. Elisa Lodi highlighted projects such as regulatory compliance for the Fonda Savio school complex, fire prevention at Via Tigor 3 Primary School, and seismic adaptation of G.Caprin Middle School. Plans include the construction of a new nursery in Via Alle Cave, a new nursery in the former Chiarle area, and the expansion of the Nuvola Olga kindergarten.

PNRR funds support major interventions, including the construction of the therapeutic Acquamarina pool and the refurbishment of G. Grezar Stadium’s athletics track and lighting system. Passaggio Libertà in Piazza della Libertà – Largo città di Santos is also slated for redevelopment, connecting to the waterfront of Trieste’s Porto Vecchio.

The total amount for ongoing investments is 168.5 million euros, with 85.5 million euros earmarked for new projects. PNRR-funded public works, excluding social or digitalization initiatives, total 94.1 million euros. From PTLP, 2024 investments include 8.8 million euros for roads and infrastructure, 5.9 million euros for mobility and traffic projects, 4.3 million euros for greenery and urban hygiene, 26.7 million euros for school and sports construction, and 21.9 million euros for public construction.

Trieste’s commitment to development and community well-being is evident in the strategic allocation of resources for essential projects, emphasizing infrastructure, education, and public spaces. The administration’s proactive approach reflects a dedication to both immediate and long-term needs, ensuring Trieste’s continued growth and resilience.
