The experimental subsidy program for residents aged 65 and above will persist into 2024, providing a 50% discount on annual and semi-annual bus and train subscriptions. This confirmation comes from Cristina Amirante, the Regional Infrastructure and Territory Assessor, who outlined the details of the regional government’s resolution.
Amirante explained the ongoing procedures for these subsidies and the reimbursement mechanisms for service providers delivering local public transport.
“The effectiveness of this measure is noteworthy, promoting the use of buses and trains across a diverse demographic,” reiterated Amirante. “As of November 2023, approximately 2,660 annual subscriptions and over 9,900 discounted semi-annual subscriptions for individuals over 65 were recorded.”
The experimental subsidy allows residents aged 65 and above to avail themselves of annual and semi-annual subscriptions for local automotive and rail public transport services at 50% of the regular fare.
To implement this subsidy, a sum of 2.8 million euros has been allocated as part of the 2024 Regional Stability Law.
