The battle against non-communicable diseases intensifies as Trieste becomes a focal point for health assessment
In a joint effort between the Italian National Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health, a longstanding commitment to surveillance, prevention, and battling non-communicable diseases has taken a bold step forward. The latest endeavor, initiated in 2023, aims to evaluate the distribution of risk factors for non-communicable diseases and the prevalence of key health conditions such as hypertension, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes. The goal is to identify areas requiring targeted strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and care.
This comprehensive survey spans various regions in Italy, with the city of Trieste in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region being selected as a key participant. Starting January 2024, men and women aged 35 to 74, randomly chosen from Trieste residents, will receive invitations to take part in the survey via postal mail. Participants undergo a series of free health examinations, including blood pressure, weight, height measurements, electrocardiograms, blood draws, urine analysis, and lifestyle information collection through questionnaires at the Giuliano Isontina University Health Company.
The survey is orchestrated by the Italian National Institute of Health and endorsed by the Ministry of Health.
Trieste Mayor Roberto Dipiazza emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “This initiative holds great importance for prevention and research. I urge the selected citizens to participate, contributing to understanding, preventing, and overcoming impactful health conditions. This endeavor will positively impact quality of life and public health. I extend my gratitude to the Italian National Institute of Health for including the city of Trieste in this survey and to the Giuliano Isontina University Health Company for their contributions to the local population screening’s organization and execution.”
