In the annual unveiling of elected officials’ financial disclosures, Governor Massimiliano Fedriga has emerged as the top earner among the 48 regional councilors. His 2023 declaration, a public display of transparency, reveals a substantial increase, with his taxable income reaching almost $132,000. This places him ahead of his peers, marking a significant financial ascent compared to the preceding year.

Following closely in the fiscal ranks are Claudio Giacomelli and Giuseppe Ghersinich. Giacomelli, a seasoned Trieste lawyer, sees a noteworthy dip in his taxable income from $193,084 to $124,889. However, this reduction is not indicative of financial strain but rather a return to his usual figures, as clarified by the Fratelli d’Italia group leader. Giacomelli attributes the drop to concluding compensation for three prominent legal cases initiated before his council election in 2021.

On the other end of the spectrum, among the councilors with incomes below $10,000, are Serena Pellegrino of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, Rosaria Capozzi of the Movimento 5 Stelle, and Stefano Balloch of Fratelli d’Italia. These individuals represent the frugal end of the income spectrum, showcasing the diverse financial backgrounds within the regional assembly.

Delving further into the financial landscape, the mid-tier positions feature three first-term councilors. Marco Putto, an accomplished freelance civil engineer and former mayor of Azzano Decimo, reports an income of $118,188. Moreno Lirutti, formerly a director and later the head of the Training Center at the Santa Maria della Misericordia University Hospital in Udine, declares $115,715. Carlo Grilli, administrator of the family cleaning company since 2021 and a longtime councilor in Trieste, lists an income of $110,260.

The top ten earners are rounded out by experienced councilors Fabio Scoccimarro, Massimo Moretuzzo, Maddalena Spagnolo, and Stefano Zannier. Notably, Scoccimarro and Zannier have transitioned to executive roles as assessors in Environmental Affairs and Agricultural Resources, respectively. Also making the list are Mario Anzil in Culture and Sports and Cristina Amirante in Infrastructure and Territory. These figures provide a comprehensive snapshot of the financial diversity and dynamics within the regional assembly, based on 2023 declarations referencing the 2022 tax year.
