On Sunday, January 7th, at 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM, The Cappella Underground brings the iconic 1998 film “The Big Lebowski” by Joel and Ethan Coen to The Fabbri Theater (located at Via dei Fabbri 2/A).

This special screening features the 4K restored version with original subtitles. The cult classic from the ’90s boasts an all-star cast including Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Tara Reid. The film revolves around the laid-back and unemployed Jeffrey ‘Dude’ Lebowski, who unwittingly becomes the target of a case of mistaken identity, leading two thugs to invade his apartment, wrongly assuming him to be the millionaire Jeff Lebowski of Pasadena.

Twenty-five years after its release, there are plenty of reasons to revisit “The Big Lebowski” on the big screen. It serves as a gallery of sublime, funny, pathetic, unique, and inadequate characters grappling with life’s complexities. The memorable cast of antiheroes adds another layer of appeal. The Dude (Drugo) Lebowski, an icon of style with his Hawaiian shirts, shorts, sandals, and a laid-back yet philosophical demeanor, embodies a profound sense of being perpetually detached from the meaning of things (which, in any case, he believes doesn’t exist). Cynical enough to save his own life, faithful to his ethical, aesthetic, and, most importantly, psychedelic principles, Lebowski represents a life philosophy encapsulated in the motto “The Dude Abides” – a mantra that aptly captures the essence of patience. In these challenging and strange times, it might just be the only philosophy worth following.
