The countdown is on for the 70th edition of the Muggia Carnival, a special anniversary that will benefit from an extraordinary contribution from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. The rich program has already been prepared by the Carnival Companies association, with a groundbreaking collaboration with PromoTurismoFVG, marking the first time they’ll extend promotion beyond city limits and welcome tourists with various initiatives. The official social media pages dedicated to the event, named “Carnevale di Muggia,” are set to open today on Facebook and Instagram, complementing those managed by the Carnival Companies association under the name “Carneval de Muja.”
Exactly one month remains until the event kicks off on February 8 and concludes on February 14, with the main event being the grand masked parade on Sunday, February 11. The schedule includes the usual eagerly anticipated events, such as the giant omelet in Marconi Square or the traditional Vegetable Ball, along with many other initiatives that will transform Muggia into a week-long celebration.
For the first time this year, the Muggia Carnival joins the ranks of major events in Friuli Venezia Giulia, a crucial step that ensures significant support from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, in addition to the Ministry of Culture grant. “This recognition honors the Muggia Carnival and fills us with satisfaction because it is the result of careful work done in recent months,” explains Deputy Mayor Nicola Delconte, with responsibility for the Carnival. “It doesn’t just concern a moment of entertainment and celebration; for Muggia, the Carnival means history, culture, traditions, and a sense of belonging to the territory—a unique set of values that distinguishes the city and its citizens.”
Meanwhile, the Muggia Companies have already announced the chosen themes for the 70th edition and have been working for months on costumes and allegorical floats. La Trottola will present “La Trottola Enigmistica,” Bulli e Pupe will take the stage with “…col Ciak”…che si gira!” The Bora will propose “Cartaval-A Carneval ogni carta val,” Ongia has chosen “E se riscrivessimo le stelle?”, Mandrioi “Montagna…tra leggenda e fantasia,” Lampo has opted for “I Bomboni,” Belle Naturali for “Atlantide,” and Brivido for “Una boccata d’…arte contemporanea.” All themes will be showcased with floats and thousands of costumed participants in the grand parade on Sunday, February 11. It’s not just a simple procession but a true theatrical representation on the streets. President Mario Vascotto coordinates all activities of the companies.
Additionally, this year marks the first collaboration with PromoTurismoFVG, thanks to the Muggia municipality. This partnership will not only ensure targeted promotion of the event but also collateral initiatives for tourists during the Carnival period, such as guided tours to the Beethoven Library, Muggia Castle, or the city center, along with vital support from the PromoTurismoFVG infopoint in Marconi Square.
