Construction has commenced on the route to Lazzaretto in Muggia following severe storms last November that inflicted significant damage to the roadway, necessitating its current closure.
This morning, Mayor Paolo Polidori, accompanied by municipal councilor Elisabetta Steffè and the overseeing company, conducted an on-site inspection. “The restoration and installation of a new cliff have begun in the section affected by the storm,” explained Polidori.
“This coastal protection is vital in the event of a recurrence of exceptional and devastating events like those experienced in November. The lack of sufficient protection contributed to the incurred damages. Subsequently, roadwork will be undertaken to facilitate the previously mentioned reopening of the road in time for the summer season. It’s important to note that the damages are substantial, but we are addressing the situation as expeditiously as possible in this unprecedented emergency. I extend my gratitude to the companies involved, which have already completed a significant portion of the cliff. Weather permitting, we anticipate reopening the road to vehicular traffic by the end of March.”
