The J.J. Winckelmann Museum of Antiquities, situated at 1 Cathedral Square in Trieste, invites locals and visitors alike to delve into the ‘Histri in Istria’ exhibit. Two guided tours are scheduled for Sundays, February 4th and 18th, starting at 11 A.M. The curator, Marzia Vidulli, will lead these tours, offering free admission with a cap of 15 participants.

This exhibit, running until April 1st, 2024, from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., delves into the history, customs, and traditions of the Istrian people. Over 200 archaeological artifacts tell the story of the community that once inhabited the Istrian peninsula until the fall of Nesazio’s fortified center in 177 B.C. Supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the CRTrieste Foundation, and various Croatian institutions, the exhibit promises a unique exploration.

Marzia Vidulli Torlo, a senior conservator at the Civic Museum of Antiquities ‘J.J. Winckelmann,’ is at the helm of this showcase. A graduate of the State Institute of Art ‘E. and U. Nordio’ in Naval Decoration, Vidulli brings a wealth of experience, including a degree in Art History from the University of Trieste. She specializes in Christian archaeology, with a thesis on the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč, mentored by Professor Mario Mirabella Roberti.

Post-graduation, Vidulli has been actively involved in various projects, including the redesign of the Sartorio Civic Museum and the setup of the Oriental Art Civic Museum. Notably, she has played a crucial role in the scientific planning and coordination of renovations at the Tergestino Lapidary at San Giusto Castle and other significant sections at the Civic Museum of History and Art, now known as the Winckelmann Museum of Antiquities.

Vidulli’s extensive collaboration with local and regional entities, publishers, and her contributions to volumes and articles in specialized journals underscore her commitment to promoting the understanding of museum collections. Her efforts are geared towards reaching a diverse audience through effective communication and engaging museum display techniques, making history and culture accessible to all.
