A significant conference convened in the Municipal Council Chamber of Trieste, focusing on “Mobility Education: the Presence of Local Police in Schools.” Representatives including Caterina de Gavardo, Councilor for City Safety Policies, and Maurizio De Blasio, Councilor for Education, gathered to discuss the Local Police’s educational initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety awareness among the city’s youth.
De Gavardo opened the proceedings by acknowledging the considerable efforts of the Local Police in fostering mobility education. She outlined ongoing projects targeting all school levels, from kindergarten to high school, and highlighted the Local Police’s substantial presence in schools, averaging 120 days annually, with plans to engage 3,500 students across 72 schools in 2024.
Beyond basic road safety, De Gavardo emphasized the broader goal of promoting legal compliance and accident prevention, including education on the risks of alcohol and drug use while driving.
De Blasio echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the program’s role in strengthening community ties and fostering responsible behavior among young drivers. He noted the city’s commitment to safety and education through such initiatives.
Chief Walter Milocchi provided statistical insights, citing the Local Police’s extensive engagement with nearly 1,000 classrooms and over 13,000 students in the past five years. He highlighted the program’s evolution since its inception in the 1970s, with a focus on tailored educational approaches for different age groups.
