The Muggia Carnival is the town’s most awaited moment. It is the most important period of the year, when there are many events which attract tourists galore to our town by the Adriatic. This year’s biggest event – the carnival parade- will take place this Sunday, 19 of February and it promises to be a sight to see.

Throughout the year, for months, the carnival companies prepare the floats and costumes. Each group chooses a theme for the great parade which usually takes place on the last Sunday of the Carnival, when the city is filled with thousands of people who can observe hundreds of masks and spectacular allegorical floats.

During the journey, a jury evaluates the costumes, the theme presented, the creation of the clothes, the music and, of course, the beauty and mobility of the main carriage. At the end of the day, the winner is announced in Piazza Marconi. But there are also other events during the week, games for kids, concerts and entertainment.

The existence of the companies dates back to before the birth of the modern Muggia carnival. From the beginning of the first official parade in 1954 to today, when there were 94 different companies, including those participating in the official masquerade course and those out of competition made up of opening or closing groups.
