The Giuseppe Tartini Music Conservatory in Trieste is set to make a return to the Quirinale exactly one year after their standout performance at the official Day of Remembrance celebrations in 2023. Tomorrow, on Friday, February 9th, the Tartini String Orchestra will once again take center stage at the event, this time in honor of the Day of Remembrance 2024, with President Sergio Mattarella in attendance.

The live broadcast of the institutional ceremony will air on Rai1 from 10:55 AM and will also be available on the satellite channel and the webtv of the Chamber of Deputies.

Led by President Daniela Dado and Director Sandro Torlontano, the Tartini ensemble expressed their privilege and excitement in participating for the second year in a row. They see this as an opportunity to showcase the cosmopolitan essence of their institution, situated in the historically significant city of Trieste. The ensemble, comprised of 16 students from nine different countries with an average age of 21, reflects the Conservatory’s commitment to fostering international exchange and collaboration.

The Tartini String Orchestra, consisting of 11 female and 5 male students, will perform without a conductor. Guided by teacher Alberto Franchin, these musicians hail from Italy, Montenegro, Serbia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Peru, Turkey, Slovenia, and Belarus. Their repertoire for the Quirinale event includes the Adagio from Luigi Boccherini’s Quartet in D major op.8 no. 1 and selections from Ottorino Respighi’s “Ancient Dances and Airs” Suite no. 3, namely Italiana and Siciliana.

Their musical contribution is expected to enhance the celebration at the Quirinale, thanks in part to the collaborative efforts of Federesuli, represented by President Giuseppe de Vergottini, and the National Association Venezia Giulia e Dalmazia, led by President Renzo Codarin. The Day of Remembrance, commemorating the tragedy of the Italians and all victims of the foibe, as well as the post-war exodus from Istria, Fiume, and Dalmatia, holds significant historical importance for the region.
