The “Creating Imagination” exhibition kicked off at the Civic Museum Sartorio (located at Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, 1), offering a blend of creativity and scientific insight to visitors. Running until February 18th, the exhibition welcomes guests from Thursday to Sunday between 10 AM and 5 PM.
In a joint effort between the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism and the Trieste section of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the showcase is part of the national initiative “Art & Science Across Italy.” Supported by INFN and CERN in Geneva, the project involves local collaborators such as the Department of Physics and the Department of Mathematics and Earth Sciences at the University of Trieste, the Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture, and the Department of Mathematical, Informatics, and Physical Sciences at the University of Udine, alongside institutions like Imaginario Scientifico (IS) and the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste (INAF).
Featuring works from 62 students in third, fourth, and fifth-grade classes of high schools in Friuli Venezia Giulia, including Liceo Artistico Statale “Enrico Galvani” in Cordenons, ISIS “Dante Alighieri” in Gorizia, Liceo Scientifico “Gaspare Bertoni” in Udine, and ISIS della Bassa Friulana in Cervignano del Friuli, the exhibition unveils pieces inspired by scientific topics explored through seminars and meetings with researchers held last year.
A jury will evaluate the artworks, with the most outstanding ones honored during an event scheduled for Friday, February 16th, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM at the Costantinides Hall of the Sartorio Museum. Simultaneously, Professor Longo from the University of Trieste will lead the seminar “The Colors and Sounds of Multimessenger Astronomy.” The awarded pieces will then be part of the national exhibition to be held at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples from May 9th to May 19th. Moreover, the 48 national winners will receive scholarships for a one-week masterclass on the relationship between art and science at INFN or CERN.
The Trieste leg is just one of the 19 local exhibitions happening across Italy as part of the “Art & Science Across Italy” project, aiming to engage youth with the world of science through the language of art. The 2022-2024 edition of the project benefits from the collaboration of the University of Naples Federico II, sponsorship from Radio Kiss Kiss and CAEN, funding from the European Community through the “Playing with Protons Goes Digital” project, and support from the Edo and Elvo Tempia Foundation.
