The Burlo Garofolo Maternal and Child Health Institute has unveiled a significant expansion with the inauguration of new polyclinic spaces and a precision medicine laboratory. This expansion, representing a substantial investment of over €4.8 million, aims to address longstanding spatial constraints and enhance the institute’s capacity to deliver advanced healthcare services.
The newly inaugurated polyclinic, located at 63 Via dell’Istria, underwent extensive refurbishment to accommodate a range of specialized services, including physiotherapy, pediatric dentistry, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology. The refurbishment, funded primarily by the region with €2.46 million, reflects a commitment to modernizing healthcare infrastructure and meeting the evolving needs of the community.
“We’re pleased to mark this milestone in Burlo’s history,” remarked Stefano Dorbolò, General Director of the Institute. “The expansion not only provides much-needed space but also underscores our dedication to delivering high-quality care to our patients.”
The inauguration ceremony, attended by regional dignitaries and stakeholders, highlighted the region’s commitment to advancing healthcare and fostering innovation. Riccardo Riccardi, Regional Health Councillor, emphasized Trieste’s role as a hub for healthcare innovation and quality care.
In addition to the polyclinic expansion, a new research laboratory has been established at the institute’s original headquarters. Equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, the laboratory aims to facilitate cutting-edge research across various fields, including molecular biology and high-resolution microscopy. With an investment of €1.8 million, supported by both government funds and citizen contributions, the laboratory represents a significant step forward in advancing scientific understanding and improving patient care.
“Investing in research and technology is crucial for driving innovation and improving healthcare outcomes,” noted Massimo Zeviani, Scientific Director of the Institute. “The new laboratory will enable us to expand our research capabilities and continue our mission of excellence in scientific inquiry and patient care.”
The expansion of facilities at the Burlo Garofolo Institute marks a significant milestone in the institute’s journey toward enhancing services, fostering innovation, and improving patient outcomes.
