In a bid to enhance public safety, regional authorities in Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG) have introduced groundbreaking measures, including a cutting-edge video call service, alongside the celebrated European Emergency Number 112.

At the forefront of these initiatives is Riccardo Riccardi, the regional councilor overseeing Civil Protection, who welcomed citizens to Palmanova’s Civil Protection operational hub for the European Emergency Number 112 commemorative event.

Joined by Nazzareno Candotti, director of Volunteering, Nue 112, and Technological Systems, Riccardi underscored the importance of public engagement, particularly commending the involvement of young people as a testament to civic responsibility and awareness.

Central to the event was the unveiling of the video call service, poised to revolutionize emergency response. Citizens contacting emergency services will receive an SMS containing a link, enabling operators to initiate a DinamiCall and provide crucial guidance for localization when needed.

Riccardi emphasized the significance of this service, positioning Italy at the forefront of emergency response innovation. The ability for operators to visually assess emergency scenes in real-time promises to streamline operations and optimize resource deployment, a crucial factor in time-sensitive situations.

Detailing the functionality of the Nue service, Riccardi highlighted its accessibility and efficiency. By dialing 112, citizens can request various forms of assistance, including medical, police, firefighting, and sea rescue, with calls promptly directed to the appropriate operational center for swift intervention.

Moreover, the Nue service ensures inclusivity, guaranteeing access for the hearing impaired through the innovative “112 Deaf” feature, aligning with European standards for emergency accessibility.

In addition to language translation services, which cater to 17 languages, including English, German, Romanian, and Slovenian, the Nue system boasts impressive call handling capabilities, with an average of 11 calls per day managed through translation services in 2023.

With 150 telephone lines available, the Nue service stands ready to handle simultaneous calls, while robust call filtering mechanisms ensure that emergency response organizations prioritize genuine requests, maximizing efficiency and resource allocation.

The unveiling of these advancements marks a significant milestone in Friuli Venezia Giulia’s ongoing commitment to public safety, underscoring the region’s proactive approach to emergency preparedness and response.
