Friday night at the Verdi theater was a whirlwind of anticipation and activity, promising an evening of enthralling performance. As the curtains ascended, marking a pivotal moment in the theatrical narrative, the audience found themselves transported into the world of Strauss’s “Adriane auf Naxos” through the splendid stage design and impeccable costuming.
The collaborative effort between the Verdi of Trieste, the Municipal Theatre of Bologna, and La Fenice of Venice offered audiences a unique blend of tradition and innovation. Directed by Paul Curran and featuring costumes and sets by Gary McCann, the production explored the intersection of Baroque elegance and post-modern esthetics.
Stable Music Director Enrico Calesso lead the ensemble, ensuring a performance rooted in authenticity and depth. The cast, including sopranos Simone Schneider and Margarita Vilsone, brought their expertise to the stage, and resulted in a standing ovation at the end of the opera.
