Around fifty individuals convened outside the Prefecture to voice their concerns over workplace accidents and fatalities, in a demonstration organized by Cgil and Uil. Participants laid out a prominent banner on the ground bearing the message “Work-related deaths are never accidental” and adorned the area with an assortment of colorful helmets.
The gathering included representatives displaying flags from various labor unions, with a notable presence from the Construction and Metalworking sector unions (Fillea-Cgil, Feneal-Uil, Fiom, and Uilm).
A delegation from the unions is scheduled to meet with Prefect Pietro Signoriello.
Marco Relli, secretary of Fiom-Cgil Trieste, stated, “The ongoing toll of accidents and fatalities is deeply concerning and unsustainable.” Massimo Minen, Feneal Uil’s FVG secretary, pointed to several factors contributing to the incidents, including “the complexity of contractual arrangements on construction sites, challenges in subcontractor oversight, and inadequate safety training.” Additionally, Massimo Marega, general secretary of Fillea-Cgil FVG, highlighted language barriers faced by foreign workers, suggesting that training efforts may be less effective as a result.
