The unveiling of a new deck of cards celebrating the rich landscape heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia took center stage at the prestigious Sartorio Museum in Trieste. Produced by Modiano Industrie Carte da Gioco ed Affini Spa, the event was graced by Modiano’s President, Stefano Crechici, during the opening of the exhibition “Cycle and Recycle: Exploring Play and Identity.” This unveiling marked a highlight of the second edition of the esteemed “Le Mani d’Oro” project, orchestrated by the Opera Viva Association under the artistic direction of Lorena Matic.
The exhibition served as the culmination of a journey that commenced with a spirited ideas competition engaging students from the Sello Artistic High School in Udine. These students meticulously crafted 14 illustrations each, mirroring the region’s breathtaking landscape and cultural landmarks, corresponding to the number of cards in a suit. The winning illustrations from four distinct groups, representing each suit, now adorn the exquisite cards of the latest Modiano deck.
Notable among the chosen sites are the historic Aquileia site, the majestic Friulian Dolomites, the iconic Piazza Transalpina, the awe-inspiring Giant Cave, the legendary Devil’s Bridge, and the serene Palù di Livenza site. Meanwhile, students from the Fabiani Artistic High School in Gorizia showcased their creativity by ingeniously repurposing production waste and defective cards, fashioning them into an innovative fabric for a full-sized garment. This remarkable creation, vetted and lauded by a panel of discerning judges, emerged triumphant.
