Trieste celebrates a milestone in its urban redevelopment as the Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo bypass opens to the public. This transformative project, inaugurated in the presence of Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and regional officials, marks a significant step forward in revitalizing the city’s historic district, offering enhanced connectivity between the museum quarter and downtown Trieste.
In a grand ceremony this afternoon, attended by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel, Councilor for Real Estate Policy Elisa Lodi, Councilor for Financial Policies Everest Bertoli, Councilor for Territorial Policies Michele Babuder, President of the City Council Francesco di Paola Panteca, and Regional Councilor for Friuli-Venezia Giulia Pierpaolo Roberti, the long-awaited Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo Bypass was officially opened to the public. This significant infrastructure project, connecting the museum district to the heart of Trieste at Largo Santos, marks a milestone in the city’s urban development.
The inauguration of the first segment of the bypass signifies a new era of connectivity and accessibility for residents and visitors alike. Initially accommodating two-way vehicular traffic, the bypass will soon transition to a one-way system, streamlining access towards Barcola. Mayor Roberto Dipiazza expressed his elation, describing the project as a remarkable addition to Trieste’s urban landscape.
Councilor Elisa Lodi underscored the project’s broader impact on the revitalization of the Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo area, announcing upcoming initiatives such as the Green Linear Park, promising over 3 kilometers of pedestrian-friendly space. Councilor Everest Bertoli echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the transformative nature of the project, which promises to redefine the city’s historic core.
Michele Babuder, Councilor for Territorial Policies, highlighted the meticulous planning involved in the project, including the planting of numerous tree species and the integration of sustainable infrastructure. The project, spanning approximately 20,000 square meters, involved careful coordination between multiple stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption and maximum benefit for the community.
