The reopening of the road to Lazzaretto is anticipated in early April, according to Mayor Paolo Polidori of Muggia, who provided updates on the ongoing reconstruction efforts yesterday following a site inspection with municipal assessor Elisabetta Steffè.

“In constant communication with Civil Protection,” Mayor Polidori explained, “we’re currently experiencing a brief pause in construction due to material sourcing issues for the guardrail on the sharp curve of Punta Sottile. Ensuring compliance with specific requirements at that point is essential before reopening the road. However, I’ve received assurances that progress will resume swiftly.”

Regrettably, Mayor Polidori added, the reopening for Easter, initially considered, is no longer feasible. Nevertheless, he assured that full restoration would follow shortly. He emphasized plans for resurfacing the entire roadway and concluding the cliff section leading to the logistics base during the upcoming inspection with regional assessor Riccardo Riccardi.

Meanwhile, to safeguard against future occurrences, Mayor Polidori noted that all other parts of the promenade affected by recent waves have been fortified with an extensive series of rocks, serving as a vital barrier against similar phenomena.
