In the elegantly adorned Blue Lounge of Trieste’s Municipal Hall, Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and Massimo Paniccia, the president of the CRTrieste Foundation, inked a pivotal agreement aimed at revitalizing five play areas nestled within the Barcola Pine Forest.

Accompanying them were Michele Babuder, the Assessor for Territorial Policies, along with Francesco Prioglio and Paolo Santangelo, respectively serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors and Secretary General of the CRTrieste Foundation.
With an estimated value hovering around 148,000 euros, this collaborative effort seeks to breathe new life into cherished public spaces, left ravaged by the ferocity of last year’s unforgiving autumnal tempests.
Expressing gratitude, Mayor Roberto Dipiazza lauded the CRTrieste Foundation for its steadfast commitment to the city’s well-being, characterizing the signing ceremony as a significant milestone, heralding the return of a portion of the territory to the service of its citizens.
Echoing this sentiment, Massimo Paniccia, president of the CRTrieste Foundation, underscored the pivotal role of institutional synergy, highlighting the Foundation’s swift response to the municipality’s call for intervention in restoring the Barcola Pine Forest play area. He outlined the Foundation’s autonomous operational strategies, set to expedite the refurbishment process and ensure the expeditious reopening of these recreational spaces.
In his remarks, Assessor Michele Babuder extended gratitude to Massimo Paniccia and the CRTrieste Foundation for their unwavering support and collaborative spirit, emphasizing the substantial impact of their joint efforts in rejuvenating spaces cherished by families and children alike. Babuder emphasized the alignment of these efforts with ongoing municipal initiatives, reinforcing the collective resolve to swiftly address the devastation wrought by adverse weather conditions.
BACKGROUND: The memorandum follows a series of unprecedented storms last autumn, which wreaked havoc on Trieste’s coastline and recreational infrastructure within the Barcola Pine Forest. Faced with extensive damage, the municipal administration sought financial assistance from the CRTrieste Foundation to aid in the restoration efforts. Following the Foundation’s affirmative response, its Board of Directors resolved to directly intervene, commissioning specialized contractors to undertake the restoration of five play areas.
WORK DETAILS: Outlined below are the specific interventions slated for each play area:
Area A: Removal of existing anti-trauma pavement and sand; installation of 133 square meters of cast HIC 200 anti-trauma pavement; refurbishment of swing structures and replacement of swing suspensions.
Area B: Disassembly of existing recreational equipment; installation of a four-tower castle and 133 square meters of cast HIC 200 anti-trauma pavement.
Area C: Disassembly of existing recreational equipment; installation of a “twin next full optional” tower and 81 square meters of rubber HIC 150 anti-trauma pavement.
Area D: Installation of shock absorbers for existing swings, replacement of game panels, and installation of 133 square meters of cast HIC 150 anti-trauma pavement.
Area F: Installation of concrete caldana and 133 square meters of cast HIC 200 anti-trauma pavement; assembly of a “double fit climbing flowers” tower and installation of swing shock absorbers.
