On Friday, March 8, Italy is poised for a nationwide general strike that threatens to disrupt key sectors including education, healthcare, and transportation, both public and private.

The 24-hour strike, strategically scheduled to coincide with International Women’s Day, has been mobilized by various trade unions. It serves as a resolute stance against gender-based violence and an assertion of support for women’s rights.

In solidarity with this cause, the feminist movement Non Una di Meno has issued a call for women to join the strike, aiming to confront patriarchal violence across the spectrum. Demonstrations are anticipated to unfold across Italian cities.

The industrial action is expected to impede certain services provided by Trenitalia and Trenord, commencing from midnight on Thursday and extending until 21:00 on Friday evening. However, assurances have been made regarding the continuity of most rail services during peak commuter hours—specifically, from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00—with detailed information accessible through the companies’ respective online platforms.

Moreover, the strike’s repercussions may extend to the operational hours of public offices, as well as the provisioning of catering and cleaning services in kindergartens, schools, hospitals, and healthcare facilities.
