In a grand unveiling at Palazzo Gopcevich, the Trieste Municipality, led by Maurizio De Blasio, the municipal councilor for Education and Family Policies with responsibility for Equal Opportunities, showcased a comprehensive array of initiatives in honor of International Women’s Day, slated for March 8, 2024.
Mr. De Blasio elaborated on the initiatives, including free admission to Civic Museums for women, a collaborative effort with other city museums, and an educational event tailored for schools to foster awareness and dialogue on gender stereotypes and women’s roles in society.
Caterina de Gavardo, echoing the sentiment, remarked, “I am elated by the overwhelming turnout today, as a woman and as the municipal councillor for City Security Policies. It is our pleasure to partake in this celebration, embodying mutual respect for all women. I am particularly proud of our local police’s involvement, symbolized by the presence of Gianna Ellero, our first female police officer. Her presence epitomizes Trieste’s ethos of inclusivity and equal opportunities.”
In addition to museum access, women will enjoy reduced cinema tickets at The Space Cinema and Cinema Nazionale, and participating high schools will host a roundtable discussion titled “Female Professions – Equal Opportunities as Opportunities for All,” attended by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, municipal councillors Maurizio De Blasio and Caterina de Gavardo, and the Commander and Vice Commander of the Local Police.
Throughout March, the anti-violence and anti-stalking hotline number 1522 will also be publicized on local public transport.
During the press conference, initiatives for March 8 curated by Third Sector associations and supported by the Municipal Administration were also mentioned, aimed at addressing gender stereotypes and empowering women. Notable mentions include APS Vita Activa Nuova, APS Casa Internazionale delle Donne, ANOLF FVG Region, Associazione Clic Trieste, APS Magnolia, and Fotografaredonna APS.
It is specified that the initiative for March 8 does not include admission to the exhibitions “Antonio Ligabue” and “Van Gogh” currently underway at the Revoltella Museum and the exhibition “Sebastião Salgado. Amazon” at the Salone degli Incanti.
Furthermore, it is reminded that admission is free for everyone throughout the year at the Sartorio Museum, the Oriental Art Museum, the Maritime Museum, the J.J. Winkelmann Antiquity Museum, the Risiera di San Sabba, the Basovizza Foiba Documentation Center, and the Risorgimento Museum and Oberdan Shrine.
