In a groundbreaking move aimed at bridging gender disparities and enhancing financial literacy among female workers, the Bank of Italy, in collaboration with major union organizations, spearheaded a comprehensive educational project titled “Le donne contano … anche nel mondo del lavoro!” (Women Count Too… Even in the World of Work!). Hosted at the Bank of Italy’s Trieste Branch from March 6th to 14th, the initiative gathered approximately 80 union delegates from CGIL, CISL, and UIL for a series of enlightening sessions.
Under the auspices of this pioneering endeavor, experts from the Bank of Italy provided training on fundamental principles of personal finance, covering crucial topics such as financial planning, digital banking, cybersecurity, and debt management. The project’s innovative approach targeted not only union delegates but also sought to directly engage female workers in their workplace environments, ensuring widespread dissemination of financial knowledge.
Building on the success of its initial phase launched in 2022, which witnessed the training of union delegates from diverse regions, the project is poised to expand its reach. Over the course of the first half of 2024, the initiative will extend its footprint to regional capitals across Italy, aiming to train over 1000 additional union delegates.
One of the project’s key features is its emphasis on cascading knowledge, as union delegates, equipped with newfound financial expertise, are tasked with conducting workshops for female workers in their respective workplaces. Moreover, both delegates and workers will have access to a wealth of online resources, available through the Bank of Italy’s financial education portal “L’economia per tutti” (Economy for Everyone).
This groundbreaking initiative falls within the broader spectrum of educational activities undertaken by the Bank of Italy to empower women and address systemic gender inequalities. By fostering active economic participation among women, these efforts not only serve to narrow gender gaps but also contribute to the overall enhancement of societal well-being.
