The Urban Gardening and Greenery Training Program continues with an enlightening session scheduled for Thursday, March 21st, at 5:15 PM, located at Via Modiano 5, Trieste. Renowned speaker Aldo Cavani will delve into the captivating topic of “The Woods of the Karst and the Role of the Forestry Corps.”
Organized by Urbi et Horti in collaboration with Legambiente Trieste, Bioest, and the Municipality of Trieste, this program aims to deepen understanding of urban biodiversity. The upcoming session is the second part of a series that explores urban greenery and introduces participants to the art of beekeeping, vital elements in fostering sustainable urban environments.
In this session, Aldo Cavani will shed light on the historical significance of the Karst’s oak forests, addressing the progressive destruction they have endured due to deforestation and grazing practices. Participants will gain insights into the remnants of these ancient woods, such as those found in Val Rosandra and on Mount Lanaro, and understand the ecological role played by the Forestry Corps in preserving such invaluable natural assets.
The program is open to all individuals interested in cultivating urban gardens or exploring the concept of common goods. Participation is free of charge.
Following theoretical sessions, practical field lessons will be offered, guided by experienced farmers. Attendees will learn essential techniques, from fertilization to harvesting, with an emphasis on natural and sustainable methods such as organic, biodynamic, synergistic, or permaculture approaches.
Tiziana Cimolino, one of the program’s coordinators, emphasizes the accessibility and numerous benefits of urban gardening, not only for individuals but also for the environment. She underscores the educational value of involving children in gardening activities.
