In a bid to elevate regional innovation on the global stage and attract foreign investment, Massimiliano Fedriga, Governor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, is spearheading a high-profile mission to London. The initiative, coinciding with the fifth edition of Smau RestartsUp, aims to showcase the region’s success stories and foster partnerships with international counterparts.
Organized by the Labor & Business Development Agency in collaboration with Smau and ITA-Italian Trade Agency, the mission will spotlight 40 Italian startups, including four from Friuli Venezia Giulia, keen on expanding into the UK market. Alongside them, innovation teams from leading Italian corporations and a cadre of innovation-focused journalists will converge, along with representatives from five other Italian regions.
The itinerary includes an opening event at the Italian Embassy in London, where approximately 250 stakeholders from both the Italian and British innovation ecosystems will convene for networking and collaboration. Notable speakers include Ambassador Inigo Lambertini and Pierantonio Macola, President of Smau.
Subsequent activities at the Old Truman Brewery will feature thematic panels and one-to-one meetings, tackling topics ranging from open innovation to corporate investment strategies. Notable participants include Arup, Google, and Tech Nation.
Governor Fedriga emphasized the significance of the mission, noting Friuli Venezia Giulia’s distinction as Italy’s foremost region for innovative startups. He underscored the event’s dual purpose: showcasing regional innovation prowess and laying the groundwork for increased foreign investment.
With Friuli Venezia Giulia already experiencing a surge in foreign capital, particularly in the burgeoning ICT sector, Governor Fedriga sees the London mission as a pivotal opportunity to amplify the region’s global footprint in innovation and investment.
