The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) has issued an update on the earthquake that struck Friuli Venezia Giulia at 10:19 p.m. local time yesterday. According to the latest data, the quake measured 4.1 in magnitude, with a hypocenter located 10 kilometers below the surface and an epicenter just 5 kilometers from the towns of Socchieve (Udine) and Tramonti di Sopra (Pordenone).

In the aftermath, at least six minor aftershocks have been recorded, with the most significant registering at a magnitude of 2.3 at 10:45 p.m.

The seismic event was felt across the entire region, from Pordenone to Udine, and even reaching as far as Trieste. Reports indicate that residents in Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, and neighboring Austria and Slovenia also experienced tremors. Emergency services received a flurry of calls, though initial assessments from Civil Protection suggest no significant injuries or structural damage.

“We heard a tremendous bang and we were very scared,” said Coriglio Zannier, mayor of Socchieve, in an interview with Rainews24. He added, “the power went out for a few minutes.” While some minor damage, such as fallen tiles, was reported, Zannier assured that the affected communities are gradually returning to normalcy.
