Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel outlined the rationale behind the event, stating, “Given the anticipated surge in tourism to Trieste over the upcoming Easter holidays, local hoteliers have reported full bookings. In response, we deemed it fitting to provide entertainment options within the city.” She announced the expansion of activities beyond Piazza Ponterosso, extending to Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia for the “Easter in the Square – Used Market” on March 31st and April 1st.

Tonel emphasized the event’s nod to Trieste’s rich tradition of used and antique markets, noting its extension to the historic Ghetto area. “Our aim is to foster synergy between the market and the Ghetto’s esteemed historical enterprises, enriching the city center and our iconic square,” she added.

Expressing gratitude to the “MeRicordo” association and President Marisa Vesnaver for their collaboration, Tonel revealed that 134 exhibitors have already signed up for the event, expressing hope for favorable weather conditions.

The “Easter in the Square – Used Market” event, co-organized by the Municipality and the “MeRicordo” association, is poised to feature antique, vintage, and modern wares across Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, Largo Granatieri, and Via Malcanton on March 31st and April 1st.

In addition to endorsing the event, the City Council has granted permission for Ghetto-based thrift shops and antique vendors to operate on March 31st and April 1st, with temporary use of public space in front of their premises from March 30th to April 1st, 2024, at no cost.
