In a remarkable display of collaborative effort, the Regional Forestry Corps and the Historical Museum have joined forces to undertake extensive restoration work at Miramare Castle Park. Spearheaded by Director Andreina Contessa and architect Giorgia Ottaviani of the Historical Museum, the initiative aims to revitalize the newly acquired area of the former Sgaravatti nurseries.

Thanks to the dedicated assistance of the Regional Forestry Corps personnel, the cleanup of the area has been successfully completed. Over recent weeks, diligent efforts have seen the removal of waste and inert materials, along with the careful elimination of dead and hazardous trees. In their place, approximately thirty new plants, including oak trees and conifers, have been introduced. Additionally, six Aleppo pines have been strategically planted to provide stabilization for the adjoining slope, securing the area above the Castle Stables.

One of the key aspects of the restoration project has been the reconstruction and reinforcement of small terraced areas, facilitated by the utilization of new stone inserts sourced from the renowned quarries of Aurisina.

The collaborative spirit was evident as Director Contessa, alongside Operations Director Enrico Carli and structure coordinator Luigi Berghem, met with the dedicated personnel of the Forestry Corps to acknowledge their invaluable contribution.

“The enduring partnership with the Forestry Service and the Forestry Corps is a testament to our shared commitment to preserving and enhancing the natural and historical heritage of Miramare Castle Park,” stated Director Contessa. “Thanks to their support and the funding provided by the Ministry of Culture, we are now able to embark on a comprehensive planning phase for the utilization of these revitalized spaces.”

As a gesture of appreciation, the Forestry Corps personnel were treated to a tour of the captivating exhibition “Kosmos: The Ship of Knowledge,” guided by Dr. Daniela Crasso. This exchange not only underscored the fruitful collaboration between the two institutions but also highlighted the cultural enrichment opportunities made possible through such partnerships.

The restoration efforts at Miramare Castle Park stand as a testament to the power of cooperation in preserving and promoting the cultural and environmental heritage of our shared spaces.
