In a bid to reinforce the enduring ties between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Somalia, the Italo-Somali association Sagal unveiled a series of initiatives today. The focus: to underscore the resilient relationship between the regions amidst Somalia’s efforts to rebuild post-devastating civil strife.
At the heart of these endeavors lies a dual ambition: to foster stability, inject fresh professional expertise, and overhaul administrative structures crucial for Somalia’s resurgence, while forging collaborative avenues with European allies, notably Italy.
The message was succinctly delivered in Trieste by the regional councillor for Local Autonomies, against the backdrop of two flagship events. First, the unveiling of the photographic exhibition “Mogadishu and its historical-urban evolution,” slated to run from April 18th to May 5th. Second, a high-level conference titled “Somalia: from the search for the past to the perspective of the future,” scheduled for April 17th.
Organized by the Italo-Somali cultural association Sagal, these initiatives delve into the developmental trajectory of Somali society, aiming to cement ties with Italian institutions, with a keen eye on Friuli Venezia Giulia. Financial backing from the Region, under regional law no. 9 of 2023, underscores a commitment to this vision.
The councillor underscored the strategic importance of initiatives attracting foreign investment to the region, alongside fostering commercial ties with emerging economies. Notably, Friuli Venezia Giulia’s aspiration to emerge as a key partner for Somalia speaks volumes about Italy’s commitment to bolstering the war-torn nation’s economic and social fabric.
The “Mogadishu and its historical-urban evolution” exhibition promises to be a captivating journey, offering insights into the city’s morphing landscape through vintage photographs, maps, and floor plans.
