In a bid to champion children’s health awareness, the Burlo Garofolo Foundation announces the eagerly anticipated return of “Il Burlo in Piazza,” slated from April 17th to April 20th. Nestled in the heart of Piazza della Borsa in Trieste, this year’s event promises a captivating series of engagements dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of the youngest members of society.
Aligned with the XXVII National Congress of the Italian Society of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (SIOP), the second edition of “Il Burlo in Piazza” is a collaborative effort between the Burlo Garofolo Foundation and the Otorhinolaryngology and Audiology department of IRCCS Burlo Garofolo. This strategic partnership underscores a commitment to holistic healthcare, uniting medical expertise and community engagement.
A rich tapestry of discussions and round-table sessions awaits attendees, offering insights into crucial pediatric health concerns. From preventing noise-induced damage in adolescents to addressing food selectivity and foreign body inhalation in young children, the event aims to empower families with vital knowledge and preventive measures.
Gabriele Cont, President of the Burlo Garofolo Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for the event’s broader mission, stating, “We’re taking to the streets once again, reinforcing our dedication to promoting comprehensive health. By partnering with the esteemed professionals of IRCCS, we’re extending our reach beyond physical borders, actively involving the community in prevention and care initiatives.”
The event’s diverse program, supported by the University of Trieste, the Municipality of Trieste, and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, delves deep into pediatric health topics. Dr. Eva Orzan, Director of Audiology and Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology at IRCCS “Burlo Garofolo,” highlighted the escalating issue of noise-induced hearing loss in children, emphasizing the critical role of preventive strategies.
Likewise, Dr. Alessandro Amaddeo, from the Emergency Pediatrics and Emergency Room at IRCCS Burlo Garofolo, shed light on the alarming prevalence of foreign body choking incidents among young children, stressing the importance of awareness and life-saving interventions.
Food selectivity, a common phenomenon in children, was discussed by Dr. Egidio Barbi, Director of the Pediatrics Department at IRCCS Burlo Garofolo. He emphasized the need for discerning between physiological preferences and potential underlying health issues, providing valuable guidance for parents and caregivers.
The event, open to all, promises an immersive experience, blending expert insights with interactive engagement. Alongside professionals from IRCCS and representatives from renowned academic institutions, attendees will discover informative resources and meet beloved mascots Giulio Coniglio, Topo Tommaso, and Oca Caterina, created by Nicoletta Costa.
Moreover, voluntary donations received during the event will contribute to funding future projects of the Burlo Garofolo Foundation, furthering its collaborative efforts with IRCCS in advancing pediatric healthcare.
Stefano Dorbolò, General Director of Burlo, expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s impactful initiatives, reaffirming a shared commitment to fostering health education and community support. “Supporting the Foundation,” he emphasized, “is instrumental in realizing our collective mission of enhancing healthcare, nurturing alliances, and enriching lives.”
As “Il Burlo in Piazza” prepares to unfold its transformative agenda, it stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment, championing the health and well-being of future generations.
