In a grand unveiling at Vinitaly, the Prosecco Doc Theatre played host to the official presentation of the crew set to embark on a high-stakes sailing adventure aboard the Maxi Yacht PROSECCO DOC Shockwave3. This formidable vessel, renowned as one of the most enduring and triumphant racing boats in the international offshore sailing circuit, is primed for a season packed with a dense calendar of events and regattas.
Under the banner of the “PROSECCO DOC Sailing at Full Sail: The Consortium’s Commitment to the Sailing World” event, the crew’s introduction marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the Prosecco DOC Consortium, Gruppo Fintria – Step Impianti, and Jaked. These entities have provided crucial support, including technical expertise and the unveiling of the crew’s official uniforms for the very first time.
Led by Claudio Demartis and Pompeo Tria, the 2024 sports project embodies a fusion of seasoned professionalism and burgeoning talent, with a keen focus on fostering the development of young athletes from international dinghy classes.
The crew selection process mirrors Demartis’s vision, drawing upon his extensive firsthand experience in the sailing realm. The team’s composition reflects a synthesis of his journey, from humble beginnings in dinghies to commanding offshore vessels, now generously shared with the next generation of sailors.
Comprising a total of twenty-three individuals, the crew boasts a dynamic mix of seasoned professionals and rising stars, each poised to make their mark on the high seas. Noteworthy among them is Alberto Avanzini, a prodigious talent already crowned as a world champion at the 2023 Optimist World Championships. Avanzini’s inclusion signifies a deliberate strategy to nurture young talent and provide them with invaluable experience alongside seasoned veterans.
Commenting on the ambitious project, Claudio Demartis remarked, “With this season, we’re not only aiming for sporting success but also striving to cement our longstanding commitment to nurturing the next generation of sailing talent. Our partners, including PROSECCO DOC, Gruppo Fintria – Step Impianti, and Jaked, have played a pivotal role in making this vision a reality.”
Stefano Zanette, president of the Prosecco DOC Consortium, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the alignment of sailing values with broader themes of sustainability and teamwork. He underscored the significance of events like the Barcolana in Trieste, which have evolved into international showcases for sailing prowess and camaraderie.
Looking ahead, the 2024 Young Talents project promises a blend of future aspirations, seasoned expertise, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. For Alberto Avanzini and his fellow crewmates, it represents not just a chance to compete but also an opportunity to learn, grow, and ultimately, to leave an indelible mark on the world of sailing.
