The ninth edition of the “Triestebookfest” was officially announced, showcasing a theme of “What a Wonderful World! Readings on Humanity and the Environment in the Present Time (with a Look to the Past).” Scheduled from April 27th to May 5th, the literary festival promises a diverse program featuring over twenty author talks, two master lectures, three exhibitions, artistic performances, and cultural walks through the city’s gardens and parks.
Organized by the cultural association Triestebookfest in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste and with contributions from the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the festival has garnered support from the Casali Foundation, CRTrieste Foundation, and media partnership with Il Piccolo.
As tradition dictates, the event will immerse attendees in a journey through books, people, and the beauty that surrounds us, with venues including Sala Bobi Bazlen at Palazzo Gopcevich, Auditorium del Museo Revoltella, Antico Caffè San Marco, Knulp, Lovat, Trart, Hangar, and Cavò. Cultural walks titled “Three Gardens, a Thousand Words” will take place at the Public Garden Muzio de Tommasini, Villa Revoltella, and the Botanical Garden.
Renowned figures such as scientist and popularizer Stefano Mancuso, Tiziano Fratus, Daniele Zovi, Giulia Corsini, Gianluca Felicetti, Davide Sapienza, and Lorenzo Pavolini are among the many authors participating.
A highlight of the “Triestebookfest” is the second edition of the “Concorso per Essi,” dedicated to journalist and author Corrado Premuda, engaging students aged 15 to 18. The competition, made possible by the support of the Pietro Pittini Foundation and media partnership with Il Piccolo, will be unveiled on May 10th, coinciding with the inauguration of the laboratory/bar named after Corrado Premuda at the IAL FVG headquarters, where Premuda taught.
Loriana Ursich, president and artistic director of the cultural association Triestebookfest, along with vice president Angela Del Prete, presented the detailed festival program.
Early Festival Highlights
Kicking off with a preview event on Saturday, April 27th, at Cavò, the festival inaugurates the first of three scheduled exhibitions: “Forrest” by Opher Thomson, exploring the concept of home. Discussions on ancient grains, animal welfare, and the birth of a child in varied landscapes are among the engaging sessions slated for the festival’s early days.
Exploring Humanity and Nature
From encounters with ancient grains to reflections on wildlife conservation, the festival provides a platform for thought-provoking discussions on humanity’s relationship with nature. Noteworthy events include presentations on the societal impact of protecting animals and the resurgence of wild animals in Italy.
Looking Forward
With a rich lineup of sessions covering diverse aspects of human existence and the natural world, the “Triestebookfest” 2024 promises to be a celebration of literature, culture, and environmental awareness. As audiences prepare to embark on this literary journey, the festival stands as a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and the exploration of our world’s wonders.
