In a remarkable turn of events, tourism in the picturesque region of Friuli Venezia Giulia has surged to unprecedented heights following a dazzling beginning to the year. With over one million visitors flocking to its shores and mountains in the first quarter alone, the region is poised for an exceptional summer season, bolstered by an array of offerings ranging from sun-kissed beaches to historic cityscapes.

The unveiling of the region’s extensive summer lineup was met with enthusiasm as President of the Region, Fedriga, and Regional Councilor for Productive Activities and Tourism, Bini, unveiled the plans in a grand ceremony held in Trieste.

According to recent data, tourist arrivals in Friuli Venezia Giulia have skyrocketed by an impressive 16% compared to the previous year. The mountainous retreats and regional ski resorts witnessed a notable uptick of 4.4%, while urban centers saw an 11.1% increase. However, it is the seaside havens that stole the spotlight, boasting a staggering 46% surge in visitor numbers.

International guests, hailing predominantly from Ireland, Austria, Spain, Germany, the United States, and Poland, contributed significantly to the tourism surge, with a remarkable 24% increase in their numbers. This influx, coupled with a robust 10.9% rise in domestic tourism, paints a promising picture for the upcoming summer season.

In destinations such as Lignano Sabbiadoro, bookings have surged by 5% from May 8th to September 18th compared to the same period last year, with room occupancy rates reaching an impressive 42%. This marks a substantial increase from the 37% occupancy rate recorded in the summer of 2023.

A key factor driving this tourism boom is the region’s aggressive marketing campaign, which has leveraged national television networks and social media platforms to showcase Friuli Venezia Giulia’s unique charm and offerings.

Furthermore, the recent inauguration of seven new international routes at the Ronchi dei Legionari airport, linking destinations such as Paris, Budapest, and Krakow, is expected to further fuel tourism growth by attracting travelers from untapped markets.

As anticipation mounts for the summer season, the region’s mountainous terrain is gearing up for an influx of visitors, with hotel and bed & breakfast accommodations already reporting sold-out status. With over 1000 activities on offer, including hiking, forest adventures, spelunking, and cultural excursions, visitors are spoiled for choice.

For those seeking an elevated experience, the opening of the Monte Lussari cable car in Tarvisio on June 1st promises breathtaking vistas, while additional facilities in Sappada, Sella Nevea, Piancavallo, Zoncolan, and Forni di Sopra will be available from July 6th onwards, catering to adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike.
