In a fusion of cycling, music, and cultural immersion, the picturesque region of Collio beckons adventurers and music enthusiasts alike to its inaugural “Ciclocanto-Petjekolo” event. Organized by the Piccolo Opera Festival in partnership with the A.S.D Collio Bike Team, this unique journey promises to be a sensory delight, combining the breathtaking landscapes of Collio/Brda with the soul-stirring melodies of Spanish folk tradition.
Scheduled for Sunday, May 12, 2024, the adventure commences at 8:30 a.m. from the bustling piazza XXIV Maggio in Cormons, Italy. Cyclists will embark on a scenic route, traversing from Cormons to the enchanting Bosco di Plessiva and onward to the idyllic Parco dei Laghetti Rossi in San Lorenzo Isontino.
At each stop, musical interludes await, expertly curated by vocal maestro Giacomo Segulia and guitarist extraordinaire Matteo Chiodini. As the sun filters through the foliage of Bosco di Plessiva, Segulia’s velvety vocals will blend seamlessly with Chiodini’s masterful strumming, treating listeners to a selection of enchanting pieces from the likes of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Manuel De Falla.
The journey continues through verdant landscapes, punctuated by the sweet melodies echoing from Laghetti Rossi. Here, amid the tranquility of nature, Segulia and Chiodini will once again regale audiences with the rich tapestry of Spanish musical heritage, celebrating the timeless connection between humanity and the natural world.
But “Ciclocanto-Petjekolo” isn’t merely a feast for the senses; it’s a celebration of sustainability and cultural exchange. Made possible through the collaborative efforts of local municipalities and private partners, this initiative aims to showcase the region’s beauty while fostering a deeper appreciation for its cultural richness.
As the day draws to a close, participants will have the opportunity to savor the flavors of Collio at a selected farm, indulging in locally sourced delicacies while reflecting on the day’s journey.
But the adventure doesn’t end there. On Friday, May 17, cyclists will once again take to the winding roads, this time exploring the Slovenian-Brda Collio, culminating in a captivating performance by the Duo D’Ito in the quaint village of San Martino.
In the event of inclement weather, May 19 stands ready as a substitute date, ensuring that participants can revel in the magic of “Ciclocanto-Petjekolo” rain or shine.
As the sun sets on another day in Collio, cyclists and music aficionados alike will carry with them memories of a truly immersive experience—one that seamlessly intertwines the natural wonders of the region with the timeless melodies of Spanish folklore.
