n a significant move to bolster mental health services for young people, the regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has established the Student Psychologist Bonus as a permanent program under the 2024 Stability Law. This initiative, funded with a generous allocation of 1.5 million euros over the next three years, aims to provide critical psychological support to students across the region.

The announcement was made by the Regional Education Councillor during a recent videoconference, underscoring the program’s role in the region’s comprehensive strategy to ensure the right to education. Implemented through the Regional Association for the Right to Education (Ardis), the initiative is part of a collaborative effort involving the regional government, the Regional School Office, and the Regional Order of Psychologists.

“Our commitment is to make sure every student up to the age of 24 has access to the psychological support they need,” the Councillor emphasized. “This program is a crucial step in addressing the mental health needs of our youth, providing essential resources for those facing psychological or physical challenges.”

The Student Psychologist Bonus covers 90 percent of the costs for five sessions with an accredited specialist, amounting to 225 euros of the 250-euro total cost. This benefit is available to families with students residing in Friuli Venezia Giulia who are enrolled in secondary education, as well as those in lower secondary school and the Vocational Education and Training (Iefp) system.

Eligible families can apply for the bonus through the Ardis website, www.ardis.fvg.it, by November 14, 2024. The program allows for the bonus to be utilized once per year, with a maximum of two uses within the same educational cycle.

In addition, from May 27 to December 18, students and their families can take advantage of a complimentary session with an Ardis psychologist. Following this initial consultation, the beneficiary will receive the Psychologist Bonus and can select a specialist from a pre-approved list for the subsequent sessions.

This initiative reflects the regional government’s commitment not only to education but also to the overall well-being of its students. By addressing mental health proactively, Friuli Venezia Giulia is setting a precedent for other regions to follow, ensuring that the younger generation has the necessary support to thrive both academically and personally.
