The original 157-kilometer route from Mortegliano to Sappada for the 19th stage of the Giro d’Italia will proceed as planned this Friday, May 24. Organizers faced a potential last-minute rerouting challenge due to a landslide that occurred a week ago, blocking the old road from Arta Terme to Paularo.

Concerns were raised about the feasibility of using the old road, prompting discussions about shifting the route to a newer road. However, after a thorough inspection by the EDR, the regional road management authority, clearance was granted for the race to continue on the original course.

The landslide had posed a significant logistical challenge for the organizers, threatening to disrupt the historic race. Yet, the EDR’s swift response and effective road management ensured that the event could proceed without alteration, much to the relief of the competitors and fans alike.

The decision marks a significant logistical victory for the Giro d’Italia, underscoring the resilience and adaptability of the event’s planning team. Riders will now face the anticipated course, navigating through the picturesque yet demanding terrain as they push towards Sappada.

Friday’s stage is expected to be a crucial segment of this year’s race, and the confirmation of the original route ensures that competitors will face the rigorous challenge intended by the organizers. Enthusiasts and local spectators are eagerly anticipating the event, which promises to deliver the excitement and competitive spirit characteristic of the Giro d’Italia.
