In a significant milestone for the city’s sports community, the inauguration ceremony of Trieste Campus is scheduled for June 6th at noon. This event, dedicated to authorities and guests from the founding associations of the facility, marks the conclusion of the first phase of a grand construction project envisioned in 2019.

The newly opened campus includes a state-of-the-art gymnasium, outdoor fields accessible to the public, specialized spaces for local associations, a fencing hall, and a karate hall. President Enrico Samer announced that the final phase, which involves optimization and furnishing, is nearing completion. “Testing is underway,” he stated, “and we have set the inauguration date with the aim of opening the facility to the public in June, thus launching our ambitious sports project.”

The impact on the local sports scene is anticipated to be immediate. The water polo teams of Pallanuoto Trieste will relocate their dryland training sessions to the new campus. Furthermore, fencing and karate associations will commence classes in the new facility starting in September. The dedicated spaces for San Giusto Fencing and Fiamma Karate are touted as top-notch, providing athletes with an exceptional environment for training and competition, fostering both excellence and the potential for hosting events that could draw sports tourism to the area.

As this new chapter begins, it also signifies the start of the second phase of the project: the restoration of the historic “Via Locchi gym,” a beloved venue for team sports. This phase will also see the refurbishment of an adjacent area, which includes 186 spectator seats that have been closed for safety reasons for an extended period.

Trieste Campus stands as a beacon of community spirit and athletic ambition, poised to become a central hub for local sports and a magnet for sports enthusiasts from near and far.
