This event, held against the backdrop of the 70th anniversary of Trieste’s return to Italy and the 400th anniversary of the founding of the first Italian infantry regiment, highlighted the enduring spirit of the nation’s armed forces.
The ceremony, marking the 36th national gathering of the Infantrymen of Italy, commenced with a solemn flag-raising in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, setting a reverent tone for the day’s proceedings. The Regional Councillor for Local Autonomies and Security, speaking on behalf of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, delivered a poignant address that captured the essence of the infantrymen’s legacy.
“The Infantrymen represent the beating heart of our Armed Forces,” the Councillor remarked. “With humility and determination, they have defended our borders, maintained peace, and safeguarded our freedom. Today, they continue to protect our security. Trieste, with its storied past and strategic significance, is the perfect setting for this celebration.”

We thank them for always demonstrating the values of volunteerism and assistance, both in active service and in retirement.”
