The Municipality of Trieste has announced the start of the second phase of redevelopment works on Via Romagna, scheduled to begin on May 30. This phase will focus on updating the gas, water-sewage, and electrical networks along a specific section of the street.
Following the first phase, which covered the area between civic numbers 30 and 36, the new phase will extend approximately 65 meters up to civic number 36/1. The work, carried out by AcegasApsAmga in collaboration with municipal authorities, aims to replace the existing gray cast iron gas pipes with new high-density polyethylene pipes.
This project is part of a larger initiative to modernize Trieste’s utility networks. The second phase will also involve upgrades to the water-sewage and electrical systems.
The first phase is expected to be completed between August and September, after which the project will continue with subsequent phases until the entire street is updated. The goal is to achieve a complete redevelopment, including the resurfacing of the road.
Traffic Changes
Due to the construction, the affected section of Via Romagna will be closed to vehicular traffic, though pedestrian access will remain available. Residents of the affected civic numbers will retain limited access to ensure entry to private parking areas.
The “uphill” lane between civic number 30 and Via Fabio Severo will be closed, while the “downhill” lane will stay open for vehicles merging into Via Fabio Severo. Traffic to civic numbers beyond 36/1 will be redirected through Via Artemidoro, with exits available via Via Cantù.
These changes are necessary to facilitate the modernization of the street’s infrastructure. Upon completion, Via Romagna will have updated utility networks and a newly paved surface, enhancing safety and service continuity.
